Instrumental Music at King´s College

21st June 2011

Dear Parents,

I write to you in the final full week of term to advertise something we will be offering next year and to gauge interest from parents.  You will have learnt from previous letters of my eagerness to promote music in the school.  Not only will we have excellent choirs next term, but also we will have a number of very talented instrumentalists amongst the teaching staff.  With this in mind we will be opening up a wide/ranging instrumental music teaching programme.  Teaching will be one on one and charged at €20 per session, payable termly for ten weeks of tuition (€200 in total), and with a number of experts we will be able to offer first class teaching leading to internationally recognised ABRSM [Associated British Royal School of Music Examinations] qualifications.

At the moment we plan to offer the following instruments, but we will endeavour to source expert musicians to teach other instruments if there is enough demand-

Piano

Violin

Viola

Trombone

Euphonium

Tuba

Guitar

Flute

Saxophone

We would encourage parents to buy instruments in order that students can practise at home, however the school will purchase instruments for tuition purposes if there is enough demand (we already have a number of the instruments mentioned, including three recently purchased pianos).  Lessons will take place either during school time or after school, depending when parents request and whether children are traveling by bus or not.

If you are interested in you child learning an instrument at our school, please fill in the form below.

Best wishes

Robin Silk

Royal Wedding (Non-Uniform day), 29th April 2011

Dear Parents,

It was great to welcome all your children back for the beginning of term.  We enter the term in what I know is still the middle of a holiday week for Murcia at least, but we will be straight down to hard work, not least because this is our examination term when Year 2 and above will sit formal examinations (in some cases public examinations).

ROYAL WEDDING ON FRIDAY 29TH APRIL (NON-UNIFORM DAY)

While the UK is having a bank holiday, we will be at work as normal, but we will be recognizing what is an important event for us as a British School in Spain.  The Early Years and Key Stage 1 are invited to dress up as princes and princesses.  They will be having a special lunch together and watching some of the Royal Wedding.  For Primary and Secondary children Periods 1 and 2 will be as normal, with all students having the chance to watch the festivities from 11.15am.  Both Key Stage 2 and Secondary will have an early lunch and then at 2pm the excellent Queen tribute band, Chess, will be playing in the Dining Hall.  Soft drinks will be available for children and wine or beer will be available for parents, all at a cost of 1 Euro per drink.  Key Stage 2 and Secondary children are encouraged to dress up in a combination of the colours red, white and blue.  All those dressing up/not wearing uniform should bring a donation for charity (1 Euro is recommended). Parents are, of course, welcome to attend on Friday from 2pm.  Once again, however, if your child usually travels by bus and you are picking them up then do inform Carlos Campos.

I will be writing to you once again on Friday about some important forthcoming matters, not least our first Speech Day/Prize Giving.

Best wishes

Trip to Safari Animal Park in Elche

Please ensure that your child has had sun cream applied before they come into school and also have a sunhat for the visit.

The cost of the bus and entrance to the park is 20 euros. Please complete and sign the form and send in the money as soon as possible to ensure our visit can go ahead.

Road Race Letter

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you about our first annual road race which will take place on Wednesday 6th April around the La Torre Golf Resort.  The race will start at around 11:45 and will be completed by 13:15.

This will be an inter-house competition with every child who completes the course will earning their house some precious house points. Years 3, 4 and 5 will complete one lap of the course covering 3 kilometres. Years 6 to 10 will complete two laps of the course covering 6 kilometres. With this being the first of many road races that will follow the same course, this is a fantastic opportunity for all competitors to complete the course in the fastest time and, in doing so, having the chance to set the first King’s College road race record for their year group.

Pupils must wear their full King’s College Physical Education kit or a plain t shirt in their house colours. No colourful or branded t shirts will be allowed.  A water bottle would be advisable, however, water will be available around the track.

This has been a well-planned event involving the local police, the security on La Torre and the King’s College staff to ensure the safety of all children taking part in this event.

Parents are welcome to come and show their support at any time during the race.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Good luck to everyone involved.

Enterprise Day

Dear Parents,

On Thursday 7th April, Years 6 – 10 will be participating in an ‘Enterprise Day’.  This is an event where pupils will look in to the world of business; combining skills that they have learnt in class, to design a product to sell.

To get into the spirit of the day, we would like pupils to wear ‘business’ clothing, (e.g. no jeans or sports wear, however if this is difficult, they can wear school uniform.) The final product will be presented on Friday morning to a highly regarded panel of esteemed business people.  They will therefore be judged and the winning team will receive prizes.

We hope that this will be an enjoyable day for all.  You can read how the day goes on the school website in due course.

Yours sincerely
