The aims and objectives of this policy are:
- To ensure consistency throughout all the key stages at King´s College Murcia.
- To maintain high standards of work.
At King´s College Murcia children are given exercise books and/or folders for each area of the curriculum. These include:
- Literacy/English
- Numeracy/Maths
- Science
- History
- Geography
- Art sketch book.
- Design and Technology work book.
- RE/PHSE
- ICT (secondary)
- Spelling (primary)
- Times tables (primary)
- Handwriting (primary)
- Topic books if required (primary)
- Comprehension books if required (primary)
- Contact books (primary)
- School journal (secondary)
- Reading record (primary)
- Homework (primary)
The books are colour coded depending on the key stage and the discretion of the subject teacher. Each book is to have the name of the child, class and subject written on the front cover. Books are not to be defaced in any way.
The presentation of children´s work is to be as follows:
- All children from year 3 upwards are to write with a blue or black pen, with the exception of in numeracy/maths which is written in pencil.
- Teachers are to mark with green pen.
- At the top of each page children write the full date and underline with a ruler.
- On the next line down, at the discretion of the teacher, a clear Learning Objective (LO) is set out and again underlined. Some teachers may prefer ´WILF/WALT´ depending on the key stage of the child.
- Do not confuse the children by mixing LO´s with ´I can…..´. If the teacher prefers to use an ´I can´ target this can be written further down the page as a success criterion.
- Children write each line next to the margin, with clearly defined paragraphs depending on the age and ability of the child.
- Children are expected to follow the Nelson handwriting scheme and this should be reflected in their exercise books. Letters should be joined, legible and consistent in size depending on the age of the child.
- Children are not allowed to use tippex or scribble out any mistakes. Children should be encouraged to use brackets with a cross at the top to demonstrate that they have made a mistake.
- Erasers are allowed for all numeracy/maths work.
- Each piece of work in the children´s exercise books should be ruled off.
- Children are not allowed to graffiti in any of their exercise books.
- All sheets of paper should be trimmed and glued neatly into the children´s exercise books beneath the appropriate LO and date.
