Easter Fayre, 14th April 2011

A fun filled time was had by all during the Easter Fayre Eggtravaganza!!!!!!!!
Parents and children turned up in their hundreds to take part in all the exciting activities that afternoon. The children had a great time visiting numerous stalls which included decorating eggs, pinning the tail on the bunny, egg hoopla and hunting for Easter eggs, to name but a few. After a visit to the face painting stall, we had lots of Easter bunnies, princesses and cats as well as a few Spider men!!!
As usual, the bouncy castles were a great hit and many thanks to Lorena and Horacio Garcia Alustiza for providing them again for the children to use.

The food and drinks stall went down a storm. There was a huge variety of cakes on offer and the double chocolate cup cakes sold out completely! Great entertainment was provided by Graeme Mykal who entertained with some table top magic and some fantastic balloon creations, which the children loved!
Luis Miguel from Year 2 Yellow was the winner of Guess the number of eggs in a jar competition. His guess of 301 was only 4 away from the actual total of 305. Well done Luis Miguel!
Parents and children had gone to a huge effort to make some fantastic Easter bonnets and they all looked amazing. Prizes were given to all who had entered but the outright winners were Daniel and Victoria Martinez Madrid from Nursery Red and Nursery Yellow with their sensational creations. Many thanks to all the staff and parents who gave up their time to help organize and run the Easter Fayre and a massive thank you to everyone who supported the event. We managed to raise approximately €400 for charity and look forward to running the event again next year.

Pupils´ First Aid Course
Basic Life Support Course for pupils at King´s College Murcia- Friday 8th April 2011

At King´s College, we do not just put our staff through First Aid courses, we are also beginning to put our older students through courses. We were delighted to welcome paramedics from the Murcia Ambulance Service who delivered a fully certificated course to all our Year 9 and 10 pupils on Friday 8th April. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the course, certainly got a lot from it and, most importantly, passed! After the event all the other years were thrilled to have the chance to go in and look at the ambulance´s highly technical equipment and play with the controls; the most popular function seemed to be a desire to turn on the siren! Our thanks go to one of our very supportive parents, Mrs Belén Chacón, and our School Nurse, Ann Sinclair for making this event possible. Another superb opportunity for our students.

Inter-House Drama and Concert
Inter-House Drama- Monday 11th April 2011

On Monday 11th April Secondary pupils hosted an inter-house Drama competition, with musical Entertainment. We invited parents and Years 3 to 10 to this fantastic afternoon. The show opened with Lemon House performing ‘Macbeth’, with wild and wacky witches! This was followed by music from Year 6. Fig House’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was up next, with a superb fatal fight between Mercutio and Tybalt. A special mention was given to Christopher Miller, (Yr 9) for his acting skills with the dying Mercutio!

After music from Year 6 and 7, our third act was Orange performing ‘Hamlet’. We then heard musical renditions from Year 9 pupils. Our final act, Olives, stole the show. They gave a dramatic portrayal of ‘Richard III’ which was superb! Well done Chloe Woodhead (Yr 7), and Marisol Garre (Yr 6), Daniel Carrion (Yr 6) and Aimee Stanton (Yr 6), for stealing the show! Our final live musical act was Danny, Ian, Faye and Becca. They closed the show superbly.
Our English and Drama department also celebrated World Poetry Day earlier in the Term, and thoroughly enjoyed writing a range of Haiku poetry. Ask any of us what they are and we should now know!
Young Enterprise 2011
Young Enterprise- 7th and 8th April, 2011
On Thursday 7th April Years 6 to 10 had a fantastic Enterprise Day! We were all asked to come to school dressed very smartly in business clothes, and we all made a great effort!
The day started in the multi-purpose room where we listened to Mr Boyes and Mr Green give our instructions for the task, and watched a clip from The Apprentice. We saw two finalists pitch their product (a new drink) in front of Lord Alan Sugar and 100 business experts. We were then informed that we’d be doing a similar pitch the following day! We started to get nervous, but excited. The room was buzzing with ideas!

Each group of 4 then went off to different classrooms with a house teacher to face the challenge of the first deadline. We had until 10.40 to come up with a name for a fruit drink aimed at 11 to 16 year olds, a direct rival for coca cola. Once this was achieved we needed a catchy slogan – by 10.50! We were all successful and met this first deadline.
The rest of the morning we worked hard in our teams and had to come up with printed labels for different size bottles, and a poster to advertise the drink. Despite an extension until after lunch some groups failed to meet this and were penalised 5 points! The remainder of the afternoon was spent preparing for the big day – the final pitch!
On Friday we once again turned up in our best business attire, and prepared. When our group was called we made our way to the conference room armed with our posters and bottles. Mr Silk and Beatrice Suarez were the Dragon’s Den type judges! They listened to each pitch and scored the overall pitch and product out of 80. The final decision was kept secret from our teachers and they wanted to hear the pitches for themselves that afternoon!
Finally, after a productive and undeniably successful two days, the winner was announced! Congratulations to the ´Boom´ Team of Olive House, consisting of Fay Shreeve (Yr. 9), Denis Perez (Yr. 8), Ryan Leigh (Yr. 8), Mako Uno (Yr. 7) and Daniel Carrion (Yr.6)- you achieved first place. You’re Hired!! And also well done to each and every group for fantastic team work over the two days. Finally, we would like to thank Sir Alan, we mean Mr Boyes, and the rest of our staff for organising a fantastic Enterprise Day.

Secondary Trip to Paris
Secondary Trip to Paris, 8th-12th March 2011
On March 8th, we (Years 6 to 10) set off to Alicante airport to catch the plane that would take us to Paris! Everyone was coming in to school with smiles on their faces; we were going to Paris! When everyone arrived, we raced to the bus. We couldn’t wait to go! We were all very nervous. When we got to the airport, it was crowded with people! We checked-in and went for lunch. I was starving, so we went for lunch. When we finished, we got on the plane. It was a long flight, though I saw some amazing views when I looked out the window. We arrived in the afternoon and we got on a bus to take us to the hotel. Once we got there, we settled in and went for dinner. Then we walked around Paris and visited the Moulin Rouge.
On the second day, we visited the Eiffel Tower. It was astonishing! The views from the top floor were extraordinary, and I must say that I’ve been to Paris before and never really seen it that way. In the afternoon we rested, and after dinner, we were taken to a fair! I played air-hockey and table-football.

Second Day - We Visited Eiffel Tower
On the third day, we went to Notre Dame. It was beautiful! In the afternoon we visited Versailles. That was my favourite place. When I saw the gardens, I couldn’t believe it! It was huge!On Friday, we went to the Louvre museum. It was exciting to think that we were going to see one of, if not the, most famous painting in the world, the Mona Lisa! We also went grave-hunting to the biggest cemetery in Paris. It was very easy, as we, Y10, found our grave in less than 20 minutes! On the last day, we were reluctant to leave... we had had so much fun! Even though we came back 5 hours late because of the weather, it was an amazing experience!
