The Secondary School held an inter-house football tournament with the end result seeing Gaudi beaten to third place by Newton after a 5-0 drubbing, with the final match of Churchill versus Cervantes resulting in a victory for Cervantes on penalties.
The final was fought well with both sides canceling each other out throughout both halves. A fantastic save by Zack B prevented Pablo P from opening the scoring in the first half after a fantastic strike. Domingo Ruiz Martinez was then to be the hero for Churchill, making a string of saves to keep his side in the competition.

The match progressed into extra time followed by penalties. Cervantes were given an early lift, when Pablo P struck the crossbar for Churchill. It was not until the fourth penalty for Cervantes that Churchill came back on level terms when the penalty was fantastically saved by Domingo. The game then ended in sudden death with both goalkeepers having to take penalties. A fantastic save by Zack Begg and then a cool finish made Cervantes the winners.
The trophy was presented to Kato S. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the whole event for the spirit and the commitment they showed throughout. A fantastic start to the house competitions in 2011/12.

So, with Churchill winning in the primary tournament and Cervantes in the secondary, the first trophies of the year have already take their place in the trophy cabinets of the victors.
There will be many more competitions and trophies to play for as the school year continues and, although commiserations should be offered to those who missed out on the prizes, there is still a great deal more to play for . .. ..
