3 November 2011
Dear Parents,
The teachers had a superb learning experience at the King´s Group`/COBIS Conference at Madrid. We return with fresh ideas and ready to take on the challenges of the lead up to Christmas.
KEY STAGE 1 INTERACTIVE LIBRARY CLUB
The Librarian, Mrs Silk, would welcome help from parents who can help her create storysacks (interactive puppets to support the reading of stories) for Early Years and Key Stage 1 Pupils to promote our children’s love for books. In order to make these storysacks old household materials and clothes can be used (so if you have any do bring them in). This will take place between 10am and 12pm every Tuesday morning in the Secondary Library, starting on Tuesday 8th November. Cakes and coffee will be provided. CROSS FIT- GET FIT AND SHAPE UP AT KING´S COLLEGE, A NOTE FROM MR MARK SHAW
Hi, I’m Mark Shaw, husband to Bianca (Year 2 teacher), father to Seth and Ella, veteran fitness trainer, and novice Spanish speaker! I’m looking for people to start a Cross Training Club at King’s. Cross Training is, in my experience, hands down the most satisfying way to get and stay fit. We will combine resistance training, basic gymnastics and short cardio sessions, and diet in order to get you fit. The workouts are varied, intense and challenging. A typical session will involve: warm up, skill or strength work, followed by a timed ‘metcon’ ('cardio' with a twist) session and then a cool down. You will complete the workouts in a group; sessions are logged so you can compete as a group and against yourself. Workouts are individually scaled so everyone can participate effectively. Basics Sessions will start on Tuesday and Thursdays at 6.30pm, followed by another opportunity at 8pm. Other slots will be made available as we grow. You will need to commit to both sessions in order to make it worthwhile. If you want to take part, just come along at those times, starting 3rd November 2011.
DISPLAY DAY
On Tuesday 8th November all pupils will be off timetable making displays to decorate the school. This is a once annual event that involves teamwork and industrious spirit. Do not expect any homework to be set on that day. Pupils should bring an old t-shirt or their babi to cover their school uniform.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
On 11th November at 11am we will have our annual Remembrance Service to remember those who suffered in all wars, but especially the First and Second World Wars. All children, Key Stage 1 and up should wear a poppy for the day. These can be got from the reception or from class teachers when children arrive for school that day. A donation of your choice should be given for these; recommended €1!
INTER-HOUSE WEEK
Next week is an inter-house week once again, with the Primary Inter-House Football and the Secondary Inter-House Quiz. It means Key Stage 2 and Secondary activities will be suspended for the week. Parents are welcome to attend the Inter-House Football Final at 3.30pm on Friday 11th November (participating teams will be decided by Wednesday afternoon).
SIXTH FORM OPEN DAY, 17TH NOVEMBER
A reminder that due to the opening of our first Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) next September, there will be an open evening to explain what will happen in our Sixth Form and how it will lead on to university and the world of work. This will take place between 5 and 7pm on 17th November. Please come along and do encourage any friends or family that may be interested.

RACE FOR LIFE- LOS ALCAZARES
The Race for Life for the MABS Cancer Charity takes place in Los Alcazares on Sunday 13th November at 11am. A number of staff will be taking part in a King´s College team of runners. Pupils are also encouraged to get involved. If they want to take part they should see Miss Rachel Harrison. They even get a free t shirt if they take part!
Best wishes
Robin Silk
