Dear Parents,
First of all I apologise to those parents who turned up to watch the band on Friday, only for the band to cancel at such late notice. All was not lost, however, as the staff put on a disco for the children, accompanied by free drinks and crisps. Thank you to Mr Farnes for leading this. I am delighted that we raised another €150 for the Vincente Ferrer charity on the day. With the holiday weekend over, however, it is now high time all the students got down to some really hard work. We will be impressing on them in assemblies this week the importance of working hard in preparation for their upcoming examinations and it is imperative that the Year 10s, on the verge of sitting modules for their IGCSEs, are very disciplined in their approach to work in the next four or five weeks.
FUTURE LETTERS AND REPORTS- IMPORTANT
FROM FRIDAY 20TH MAY MY WEEKLY LETTER WILL BE ON THE WEBSITE ONLY. IT ALREADY GOES ON THE WEBSITE, UNDER THE NEWS AND EVENTS DROP DOWN AND THEN HEADMASTER´S LETTERS BUT, AS I FOREWARNED EARLIER, WE ARE MOVING TO ALMOST ENTIRELY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION IN FUTURE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE A PAPER COPY OF THE LETTER THEN PLEASE ASK AT THE FRONT DESK. WE WOULD, HOWEVER, REQUEST THAT THIS IS ONLY DONE IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES AS THIS MOVE IS PART OF OUR PROCESS OF BECOMING AN ECO SCHOOL. THE ENVIRONMENT IS NOT, OF COURSE, THE ONLY CONCERN, WITH REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON OUR EXCELLENT ADMINISTRATORS BEING ANOTHER KEY OBJECTIVE.
IN ADDITION TO THE LETTERS GOING ON THE WEBSITE, THE END OF YEAR REPORTS WILL BE THE FIRST REPORT TO BE ONLINE ONLY, ACCESSIBLE THROUGH CLASSIC, VIA THE WEBSITE. ONCE AGAIN, IT IS ESSENTIAL WE HAVE AN UPDATED EMAIL ADDRESS FOR YOU. THEREFORE, IF YOU DID NOT RETURN THE FORMS LAST TERM AND YOU ARE USING A RECENT EMAIL ADDRESS, IT IS IMPERATIVE YOU UPDATE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WITH CHRISTINE WHITEHEAD IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE. IT WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE TO REQUEST A PRINTED COPY OF YOUR REPORT FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE.
Padel Tournament
We are hoping to put on a Padel Tournament for fathers/mothers and sons/daughters, courtesy of Polaris World. This has been calendared for Friday 24th June. We need to gauge interest before the event so I would ask you to fill in the form below and return it to Carlos Campos at Reception, if you are interested in getting involved. The form below, it must be stressed, is strictly for an expression of interest. More details of the event will be sent out in due course. Please return the form by Friday 20th May.
Prize Giving for Years 1 and 2
Last Friday I sent out a letter to all Year 3 to 10 parents inviting them to our Prize Giving/Speech Day in the La Torre Conference Centre. We decided that the prize Giving and Speech Day was too long for Years 1 and 2 to sit through. We have, though, decided to hold a Prize Giving for Years 1 and 2 on the last day of term in the Main School Dining Hall. All pupils will be attending this and we would also encourage parents to attend. The event will take place at 11.30am on Tuesday 28th June. Year 1 and 2 parents are also invited to the lunch afterwards. This will take place in the excellent Los Churrascos Restaurant, next to the Conference Centre. Please fill out the form below and return it to Carlos Campos at Reception.
In order to ensure Early Years and Key Stage 1 parents are well informed of developments in the school that will affect their children in future terms, I repeat the content of last week´s letter below.
LAST WEEK´S LETTER:
LASS (Lucid Assessment System for Schools) Test
All students in Year 3 and above will be subject to this test, starting on Tuesday next week. This will give us an excellent diagnostic for progressing children in such areas as reading ages, numeracy, literacy abilities, memory skills etc. It will also help our teachers identify any special areas we need to focus on for each child, including identifying how we can stretch children who have a special gift for a particular area of our curriculum. This presages a move in the school, from next academic year, to conduct more objective testing, more frequently, which will include internationally recognised Cambridge Examinations for English (for all non-native speakers of English) and examinations in Spanish with certification from the Cervantes Institute for all students.
Speech day and Prize Giving
All students from Years 3 to 10 will be attending the Speech Day Prize Giving on our Final Day of Term at 11am in the Conference Centre on La Torre Golf Resort. This will include speeches from honoured guests, including our founder and key note speaker, Dr. Roger Fry CBE, D Litt. It is our first such event that will now happen annually and the principal focus of it will be a prize giving for all those pupils who have excelled in academic work and other areas of school life, together with those who have devoted the most effort to their studies, irrespective of raw ability. The Early Years and Key Stage 1 will have lessons as normal (with pick up at 2.30pm) so parents with older and younger children can still attend. The event will be followed by a lunch at 1pm in the excellent Los Churrascos Restaurant. This is, of course, not compulsory, but we would love as many children and family members to attend so that we can give our school year a grand finale, together with an excellent family atmosphere. The menus are attached to this letter and are charged at cost price, with a special menu for children. There is no need to make any choices yet, but we would ask you to fill in the form below and return it to Carlos Campos at Reception, together with the required fee in either cheque or cash.
