Dear Parents,

I write to inform you of a few forthcoming events and also to clarify a couple of matters once again.  I certainly hope that matters concerning uniform will calm down, but do believe me when I say that I have a long-term intention to ensure the uniform be provided at a much more reasonable cost and in a much more convenient place.

COLOUR OF SHORTS FOR BOYS WITH SUMMER UNIFORM

Concern has been expressed about the colour of shorts and shoes with the summer uniform.  As there has been some confusion on this, for this year only, I will allow either the blue or grey shorts to be worn with the white polo shirt.  The same goes for sandal/shoe colour- this can be black or dark blue.  This is not ideal as I would like the uniform to be just that, uniform for all in these year groups.  The decision for next year will be made before the end of May after full consultation with parents, pupils and staff.  The final choice, however, will rest with me.  As a general rule future changes for the following year, if any, will happen by the end of May of the previous academic year.  I would ask that there are no more complaints about the uniform as we move forward.  The idea of the changes in the first place was to maximize class time for the children and this is my priority as Head.  Next year we will go to double PE lessons for all year groups, but this is simply not possible for this year with the timetable already set in what goes across 13 year groups!  It is imperative that all children from Reception to Year 2 come into school on PE days in their PE kit!  It is, though, fine for them to wear school shoes and socks with their PE Kit and just change into trainers and PE socks for PE, changing back again at the end of their PE lesson.

CLASS MEETINGS

All parents with children in any class from Pre-Nursery to Year 2 will be able to meet with class teachers on Thursday 4th November to hear about the arrangements and routines of the class and learn more about the curriculum they will be following.  More details will be sent out by Mrs Judi Pollock, the Head of Infants in due course.

HALLOWEEN THEME DAY

Infant School children will have a themed Halloween Day on 28th October.  This is aimed to be a fun morning and we hope the children will come dressed up in Halloween Outfits. The children are asked to bring 2 Euros each, which will go to a charity (to be chosen).  That day will finish after lunch with children being picked up at the latest 1.30pm.

INFANT SCHOOL EVENTS

The following are key events for your diaries:

13 October- Reception and Year 1 Trip to Science and Water Museum (awaiting confirmation)

4 November- Class Meetings

15 December- Christmas Concert

17 December- Christmas Parties

More generally I attach a calendar for your perusal.  In future terms this will be published prior to the term´s start with any added events to be broadcast on the updated, more user friendly, school website (which is soon to come on line).

INFANT SCHOOL DROP OFF

Now that the children have settled into school, it would be most helpful if parents would drop their children off in the Infants patio and then vacate the school.  This will avoid blocking the doorways so that children can be escorted into the building by bus monitors and taken to classrooms without disruption.  In cases where there is a specific problem please talk to your child’s teacher so that arrangements can be made to support them into school.

Many thanks.

Best wishes

Robin Silk
