25th May 2011
Dear Parents,
There have been many positive events going on over the last few weeks in the school and beyond its fences, not least the Secondary students´ visit to CES Vega Media this week. A number of our Secondary children have formed a link with this innovative school on the outside of Murcia and have developed relationships with their pen pals, which were cemented on Tuesday with a series of Spanish-English learning activities. These will be repeated back on home turf later in June. I would like to thank Señorita Maria Balsalobre for making this all possible.
With all that said, it is essential that this weekend and the next week has revision as a focus for all children Year 3 and above. Children must get used to conducting concerted revision in preparation for examinations, so when it comes to GCSE/IGCSE they are well prepared to excel.
DEBATING FINAL
A reminder that the Inter-House Debating Final takes place at 3.15pm this Friday 27th May in the Main School Dining Hall. Proposing the motion will be Orange House, with Lemon House opposing the motion. The motion will be ´This House believes that the internet has been more of a negative influence than a positive influence on young people´. Parents are welcome to come along, but must be seated by 3.10pm.
SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP
I am sorry that there has been a lack of uniform available in El Corte Ingles. This has been an inevitable result of the fact we are taking over the selling of the uniform ourselves. We will just have to make do for the remaining 20 days left of school time this academic year. From Tuesday 16th August 2011 you will be able to buy all uniform items in the uniform shop opening at Bazar, opposite the Polaris World supermarket on La Torre Golf Resort. Here, I am pleased to say, you will find all items of school uniform at prices between 5% and 50% cheaper than El Corte Ingles, depending on the item. In addition, there will be King´s College hats, shopping bags, water bottles and house t-shirts for sale. It will be essential that all children wear the proper uniform from the beginning of next term. I also want to improve on school uniform, so although it will not be compulsory to buy, if children wear a hat in school it should be the school one. All children, Year 3 and above, will need a House Shirt for inter-house sports and, in keeping with our aim of becoming an eco school, there will be no plastic cups with the water dispensers next year. I therefore encourage all students to purchase the school water bottle, which will be very reasonably priced, in order that they can fill it up when needed.
VISIT OF MR STEFAN RUMISTRZEWICZ
Mr Rumistrzewicz, the new Head of Primary and Deputy Head is visiting the school with his family on Tuesday 31st May and will be available to meet with any Primary or prospective Primary parents on that afternoon. All parents are invited to have tea (or coffee) with the Headmaster and Mr Rumistrzewicz at 4pm in the main School Dining Hall on that Tuesday afternoon.
APPEAL FOR RETURN OF ANY BOOKS AND MATERIALS
Every year we have a number of books and materials such as Maths compasses, set squares and calculators going missing. Can I please ask you once again to check round your homes and ensure that any King´s College property is returned to the school.
POLARIS FOUNDATION DINNER
The Polaris Foundation is holding a dinner on Friday 24th June 2011 to raise funds for this excellent charity. For more information please phone 620 267 305. If you are interested in finding out what the foundation does please visit http://www.polarisworld.com/polarisworld/en/fundacion (please see letter below).
HEADMASTER´S ABSENCE
I will be away in Madrid from Wednesday afternoon of 1st June to Friday evening of 3rd June. During that time the Head of Secondary, Mr Boyes, will be deputising for me, although I will, of course, be contactable in Madrid at any time.
I hope that the weather continues to be balmy, but in the meantime can I draw your attention to two important upcoming events for the school: The School Sports Days on 8th, 15th and 16th June and the School Swimming gala on 17th June (venues and timings to be confirmed). I would also draw your attention to next year´s confirmed academic calendar with dates of all holidays, which can be found on the website in PDF format at http://www.kcmurcia.es/en/month/.
Best wishes

Estimados padres:
You need JavaScript enabled to view it , o si lo prefieren llamando al 620267305 (Ignacio) ó 968 030316 (María Eugenia).
