Dear Parents,

It was great to see so many of you yesterday and meet a few more of you.  I write both to detail a few key points that I made as notices on stage and to just make mention of the strike planned for next Wednesday 29th September.

29TH SEPTEMBER NATIONAL STRIKE

As you may be aware, Wednesday 29th September has been declared a day of General Strike throughout Spain.  The information we have received indicates that the strike will be supported by a minority of workers; however we are also aware that there some probability that some routes and some travel in and around Murcia may be disrupted.

The school´s position, and that of King´s Group, is that we will be open as usual on the 29th September. Our catering and cleaning staff will be reporting for duty and we have received confirmation from the bus companies that they intend running a normal school service; however, there is the possibility that some bus routes could be affected by any strike action taking place on the day, therefore it might be advisable to wait for your child until the bus arrives.

If your son/daughter normally takes the school bus to and from school and you decide to transport them by car on Wednesday 29th September, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

CARTAGENA, LA MANGA BUSES

Secondly, I am pleased to announce that I have secured agreement that the bus route that combined the old La Manga and Cartagena routes will be split from Monday 27th September as follows:

There will, though, be a small price rise in all the buses to 140 euros per month per pupil travelling (just 15 more euros per month).  As the new Head I was absolutely aghast at how much the school was losing on the buses which amounts to close to 100,000 euros per year.  I am therefore absolutely determined, at the very least, that we try and recoup at least a tiny bit of that cost back.  I hope you understand my thinking on this and that you consider the increase to be reasonable.  This increase will come into effect for the beginning of October.  I would say, however, that I will endeavour to save you money and hassle by bringing the sale of uniform into the school.  From next year I am hopeful that the quality, price and accessibility of school uniform will improve.

FUND RAISING

We welcome parental involvement in fund raising events for the school, which will go to charity, for trips and expeditions and for library books (any book donations would also be welcome).  This term we plan to have both a parent/teacher quiz, with service by the children and a Christmas Fayre.  Most of all I would like to raise the sense of fun and community in the school.

MUSIC/DRAMA

If any parent is musically or dramatically inclined and wants to help out on a volunteer basis in the school, on what will be an irregular basis, then do get in touch.

INFANT SCHOOL

Contact Books

I remind parents about the use of contact books - especially to let staff know if your child is being picked up early or by someone different

Start Time

Please make absolutely sure your child is not brought in before 9am.  The day starts at 9.15am and supervision will only begin after 9am because before that teachers are preparing their classes for the day.

Clarification of Infant School Uniform

Boys and Girls: PE shorts, polo shirts, socks and trainers

Girls: may opt for the summer dress   Boys of Year 1 and 2:  may opt for grey shorts

On PE days, round neck T shirt in place of polo shirt and PE shorts

WINTER- (Pre Nursery – Reception): School tracksuits with polo shirts, socks and shoes

Reception wear round neck T shirt on PE days

Years 1 and 2: Boys: Grey trousers, polo shirt, school jumper, socks and shoes

Girls: Pinafore dress/kilt, polo shirt and school cardigan, socks or navy tights and shoes.

On PE days: round necked T shirt, school tracksuit, socks and trainers

All children in the Infant School must have a babi for lunch, and it would be helpful for children in Years 1 and 2 to have either a babi or a shirt for art and craft activities.

Girls must wear only navy or dark green ribbon clips etc in their hair.

I hope this clarifies a few issues for you.

Best wishes

Robin Silk
