Dear Parents,

I hope you are all well and that some of you enjoyed the Inter-House Football Final recently.  Well done to Olive House on their victory.  As I write the Inter-House General Knowledge Quizzes in both Primary and the Secondary are fully underway.  It was great to see the Year 4s in their evacuees´ clothes for the Second World War Home Front Day.  Thank you to Mrs Shreeve for organising such an exciting and informative day.

As the term nears its midpoint I outline a few key details below.

YEAR 1 TEACHER

I am pleased to announce that we have appointed Mrs Tandi Emerson as the new class teacher for Year 1 Yellows.  Tandi comes to us with some considerable experience gained first in England and then in British international schools following the National Curriculum for England and Wales in both Dubai and Vietnam.  I am sure her experience, positive nature and professionalism will add significantly to the Infant School, as well as bringing this particular class the stability it deserves.  Tandi will be with us full time from Monday 25th October.

THURSDAY 28TH OCTOBER

There will be an early finish on Thursday 28th October.  All children are free to leave after 1.15pm and should be picked up at the latest by 1.30pm.  They will have been served a full lunch before they go.  School resumes on Tuesday 2nd November.

INFANT SCHOOL CLASS MEETINGS, THURSDAY 4TH NOVEMBER

Advance warning of the Infant School Class Meetings on Thursday 4th November:  there will be class meetings for all parents with children in Years 1 and 2 at 9am, followed by class meetings for all parents of children in Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception.  The Class meetings will be in both English and Spanish.

UNIFORM

I am currently working to get both a uniform thrift shop going and also our own school shop.  This is taking time, but I am quietly confident you will see results in the near future.  This will significantly reduce the cost of uniform for parents, but in the meantime I would be grateful if any outgrown, unwanted uniform is donated to the school via the reception.  This will enable us to recycle the uniform through our thrift shop once it has been established, where it will be sold at cheap prices to parents.

CHANGE TO WINTER UNIFORM

After the day off on 1st November, I would like to see all pupils come in wearing their Winter Uniform.  Winter Uniform should be worn until the end of the Winter Term.  In future all should wear Summer Uniform for both the Spring Term and first part of the Autumn Term and Winter Uniform at all other times.  This is designed to enhance our identity and give children a ´uniform´ appearance, rather than the current situation where pupils are wearing a whole array of different uniforms.

RENTAL OF FACILITIES

All our excellent sporting facilities are now available for rental to the general public.  If parents know of anyone (including themselves) who would be interested in renting them out any evening between 6 and 9pm or all weekend between 10am and 9pm each day then do get in contact by email.  Our outdoor facilities are floodlit!  The prices are outlined below:

CHRISTINE WHITEHEAD

You may have noticed Christine’s absence over the past few weeks.  Unfortunately Christine is currently off ill and may not be back for a number of weeks.  We are certainly missing her, but in the meantime Carlos Campos is doing sterling work holding the administrative fort for the school.  He will be ably assisted by Polaris accountant Maria Mazzariol, who you will see on the front desk each morning.  Please ensure enquiries are emailed to Carlos, rather than Christine for now.

I hope this information is helpful.

Best wishes

Robin Silk
