1 June 2011
Dear Parents,
We are in the middle of examinations and I am confident the vast majority of our students are making the best of their talents in the examination room as I write. Once the exams are over the students do, of course, have many exciting events to look forward to, including trips, sports days and the swimming gala. I hope to see many parents at the sporting events.
The principal reason for this letter is to thank those staff moving on at the end of the year for their efforts. I am fully aware that the Inspection report highlighted our relatively high turnover of staff and, whilst turnover will always be higher than normal in international schools, I am confident it will lessen significantly in the near future. With that in mind we have begun to put some things in place that will encourage teachers to stay and this includes free Spanish lessons for staff and other incentives.
Loren Dearing
Loren is leaving us to return to Malaga after four years excellent service as Head of Primary and previously Deputy Head and acting Head. We will be able to thank her for her hard work establishing the school over the last four years in more detail at Speech Day on 28th June.
Samantha Glazier
Samantha is returning home to be closer to family and friends after two years with us. She has done an excellent job and we wish her well back home.
Jessica Jomphe
Jessica leaves after two years with us to take on a broader challenge in another international school. She has brought her own innovative ways to teaching in the school and she will certainly be an asset to her new school in Singapore.
Paul Clarke
Paul has been with us for just under 2 years and leaves us to concentrate on his English language teaching business down in El Escobar. I am sure we will see him around and we will certainly miss his sense of humour!
Alan Boyes
Alan Boyes leaves us after just a year in the job. He has done an excellent job establishing the identity of a coherent Secondary School but with a Music and Drama teacher and an additional Induction English teacher coming to the school I will now step in to run the Secondary School directly. For the moment Alan is remaining in Spain, as he has made Murcia his home.
Vicki Boxall
Vicki leaves us after just a year in post to return home to the UK. She has done an excellent job in her short time here.
FOOTBALL PITCH
Parents who let their children play on the football pitch after school hours, when they are picking them up, do so at their own risk. We cannot condone this because we will be held liable under law, as it is an activity on the school site.
I hope you all enjoy a good weekend and do remember that I will be in Madrid until Friday evening. I look forward to seeing a number of parents at the various birthday parties over the weekend, including my own daughter, Yasmin!
Best wishes
Robin Silk
