From the Head

17th November 2011

Dear Parents,

This week, we have not only been in the midst of a school Anti-Bullying Week, with pupils filling in questionnaires about this topic, but pupils have also been filling in questionnaires about all aspects of their life at school for our annual school self-evaluation.  I have started to look at some of the comments and while the vast majority are very positive indeed, there is still much for us to work on.  In due course we will be sending out questionnaires for parents to fill out, as we did last year.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE

Christmas will soon be upon us and there are many exciting events taking place at the school in the run up to Christmas.  Not least, we have the Christmas Fayre taking place on 16th December from 2.30pm.  Money raised from this event goes to helping the El Preventorio Senora Del Amparo Orphanage in Gandia (please see the note below on the charity).  While we already have a number of things going on for this event, I do not yet have any parental stalls.  You are welcome to set up a stall for the event (the more the merrier).  We are happy for there to be some profit for the stall, as long as 20% of takings go to the chosen charity.  If you are interested then contact Mr Silk at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. EXAMS FOR SECONDARY NEXT WEEK

Next week all Year groups in the Secondary School, with the exception of Year 11 will have formal internal examinations (the Year 11 will have their IGCSE Mock examinations on the week beginning 16th January).  It is important that pupils devote some of their weekend to prepare for these.  Evidently the results of these will help form the content of the end of term reports that follow.

SECONDARY TRIP TO LORCA

As a reward for all their hard work, next Friday we are taking all the Secondary Pupils to Lorca Castle.  An additional letter will go out with the cost and a form for signing and returning, in due course.

SLIPPERS NEEDED URGENTLY

King´s College has decided to help an orphanage Situated near Gandia, Valencia.  The orphanage, El Preventorio Infantil Ntra Sra Del Amparo, is home to 55 children at present, whose ages range from 3 to 12.  The children attend school at the orphanage, which is kept going through donations and volunteers.  The orphanage started out in a tumble down house in 1953, but since then volunteers have helped maintain and improve the installations, and the centre now has two floors of bedrooms, eight classrooms, a swimming pool, a sports hall, a pleasant garden, a dining area and a multi-purpose room.

The children live a reasonable life, but when Christmas comes around they are not as fortunate as many other children, although they do receive some presents from charities, and donations made from local clubs and other organizations.

King´s College has decided to try and provide the 55 children with new slippers and socks this Christmas.  If you would like to either donate a pair of slippers or some money with which we could buy some for them, please send these in to your child’s form teacher.  Even if everyone donated just a euro we would make a huge difference to these children’s Christmas.

Please send in your donation before 16th December.  If you have any clothes or books in good condition, or anything else which you would like to donate, the orphanage would be grateful for this too.

The shoe sizes of the children range from 26 to 40.  Thank you.

SPECIAL OFFER – SCHOOL SHOP

I am pleased to inform you that our school shop is giving a “3 for the price of 2” offer on shirts and also a 20% discount on shoes.

A fine weekend to you all.

Best wishes
