Dear Parents,
With the scorching weather of Dubai replaced with the somewhat more pleasant Murcian climate and my feet under the desk, but not yet firmly, I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself as the new Head of King’s College, Murcia.
Firstly can I begin by saying how impressed I have been with the enthusiasm and friendliness of your sons and daughters. While we evidently have much talent amongst the teaching staff, both new and more established, our work will always be made easier and considerably more enjoyable by the attitude of the students, who have come to this school to experience the best of British teaching. There are some things that the excellent staff and I will be working on both in and beyond the classroom to ensure the students maintain high standards throughout the school day. Not least, they should always wear their uniform with pride, with shirts tucked in, shoes cleaned and hair kept neat and tidy.
For my part I intend to work on the creativity within the classroom of both staff and students, which from what I have seen is already very good indeed, but also I would like to see the range of opportunities expand for all children at King’s College to include access to outdoor pursuits and international trips, amongst other things. Of course, this will not happen overnight, but happen it will!
Most of all, though, I am very excited to be leading this superb school and I look forward to getting to know many of you as parents in the months and years to come. You will find me most mornings between 9 and 9.15am at the gate greeting the parents and children.
A few notes on matters of importance:
MEETING WITH THE HEAD AND IN DEPARTMENTS- WEDNESDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER
I would like to extend an invite to all parents to come into meet myself as new Head, the Department Heads and all the teachers, next Wednesday at 4pm in the Multi-purpose hall. The afternoon will begin with an address from me, with translations by our Head of Spanish, Raquel Carceles. There will also be time for questions, followed at 4.30 by parents having a chance to visit their children’s classrooms and meet the teachers, together with their children. This will be an informal occasion and will close at 5pm. Refreshments will be served and in order to get a rough idea of numbers I would ask you to return the slip at the end of this letter to Carlos Campos at Reception.
YEAR 1 CLASS
I am fully aware that some of you are concerned about the Year 1 Class that was meant to be taught by Ms Docker. However, we are very fortunate that Mrs Sandra Warren, an experienced Primary teacher and, more specifically, teacher of Year 1 agreed to step in at such short notice. Mrs Warren is primarily here to provide induction English support and will, I hope, resume that role forthwith, with the appointment of a new Year One teacher by the middle of October.
PICK-UP
Parents arriving early to pick up their children must wait outside the front door and should not come into the school building for any reason, unless they have a specific question to ask of our Deputy Administration Manager, Mr Carlos Campos at the Reception. The same ruling applies for those parents picking up children from the Infant School.
INFANT SCHOOL AIR-CONDITIONING
We are aware that there have been some problems with the functioning of the Infant School air-conditioning. While the air conditioning is working, it is in need of some routine maintenance and we are working to get that fixed as soon as possible.
I hope this clarifies some key points, but I will be corresponding with you regularly on any matters of importance as the school moves forward into the future.
Best wishes
Robin Silk
