Dear Parents,
It was great to see so many of you at the class/section presentations this week. I have been very impressed with the way the children have settled back into their school routine. In the coming week the term really gets under way, with the start of activities and instrumental music lessons. I am delighted with the fact so many children and parents have shown an interest in the extra opportunities we are offering this year. The school is certainly going to be busy and I am confident the children´s experience will be enhanced, which is all important to us.
CLASS PRESENTATIONS FOR RECEPTION AND KEY STAGE 1
Class Presentations next week on Tuesday 20th September will be staggered, with Reception at 3.30pm, and Year 1 and Year 2 at 4.00pm in the Multipurpose Hall. This will allow parents with children in more than one of these year groups to attend more than one presentation.
BUSES- PUNCTUALITY
We are very sorry for the delays experienced on the buses thus far this term. This is due to our desire to utilize the full school day in a meaningful fashion. We have now taken steps to ensure that the buses leave on time.
To help us, a reminder to all parents of children who take the bus: it is essential that your child is ready at the pick up time and also that you are there to collect younger children at drop off times. Only attention to punctuality will ensure the smooth running of our buses.
LATE SIGNING IN AND EARLY SIGN OUT
Any children arriving after 9.30am in the morning must sign in/be signed in at the Reception. If leaving early, children must sign out/be signed out at the Reception. These procedures are essential for health and safety, not least in the event of a fire.
INTERNATIONAL DAY- 30TH SEPTEMBER
On Friday 30th September we have our International Day to coincide with International Languages day. You are shortly to receive a letter in more detail from Raquel Carceles, the Head of Spanish, but until then I would urge parents to get involved. The idea is that each class takes on a nation represented in some way in the school community, with the hope that parents prepare food and drink from that country, to be purchased by token in the representative classroom. Money goes towards the Vincente Ferrer Foundation. There will be a number of other events on the day, although there will be more detail on that in Señorita Carceles´s letter. If you are willing to get involved preparing national food or drink for a particular country then we would be most grateful. The following countries are represented in the school in some way (at least one parent of a child or a member of staff):
Spain
England
Scotland
Wales
Ireland
Netherlands
Germany
Italy
Bulgaria
Russia
Poland
Turkey
USA
Peru
Colombia
Venezuela
Argentina
China
Japan
Korea
South Africa
Mauritius
Australia
There may be others I have missed, but as you can see we have all six continents represented here. If you are willing to get involved then please tell Arianna Suarez or Carlos Campos at Reception.
LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES, AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
On Monday 19th September lunch time activities will start. We also plan to start instrumental music lessons, but please bear with us in this regard as we still have requests coming in (all those who sign up for lessons will get 10 lessons per term). On 26th September after school activities will begin; Gary Whitaker will be sending out a letter regarding this shortly.
SIXTH FORM (YEARS 12 AND 13) OPEN DAY AND PRESENTATION FOR KING´S COLLEGE, THE BRITISH SCHOOL OF MURCIA, 17th NOVEMBER 2011
This event is scheduled for 17th November 2011. It is principally aimed at existing and prospective Year 10 and 11 parents, but all parents are welcome. It is definitely worth attending if you have any concern about your child´s path from the English system to universities, both here in Spain and around the world. The Head of King´s College, Madrid will be coming down to give a presentation to parents and I will also be talking to parents.
I look forward to seeing our parents from Reception and Years 1 and 2 on Tuesday 20th September.
Best wishes
Robin Silk
