From the Head
11th January 2012
Dear Parents,
It was great to see the children back at school, so full of enthusiasm after an enjoyable Christmas holiday, blessed with superb weather. The term is already under way and it is certainly going to be a busy one. I outline a number of important points below.
CALENDAR
Your child should have brought home a copy of the school calendar for you. I am sorry to report that there is one error in the calendar. This concerns a holiday date next term: it indicates that there is a holiday on 30th May. There is, of course, no holiday on 30th May; instead the holiday should read as follows:
Monday 30th April: Holiday
Tuesday 1st May: National Holiday
Wednesday 2nd May: Holiday
OPEN HOUSE COFFEE MORNINGS
On Thursday 26th January we will have our inaugural coffee morning for parents to put questions and suggestions to the Head and Deputy. This will start at 9.30am in the Multi Purpose Hall. The idea of this is to give parents a greater opportunity to contribute to school issues and moving the school forward. Carlos Campos will be in attendance for any translation issues.
OBESITY SURVEY
A final reminder for any final questionnaires for the obesity survey to be returned to the School reception by Wednesday 18th January. The date for the children´s medical checks will be announced shortly.
NEW STAFF
With the imminent birth of her second child, Maria Garcia will be on maternity leave from later this month. During her maternity she will be covered by Señora Araceli Morales. She is already with us and I am confident she will be an excellent replacement.
I am delighted that Sally Bengtsson, who did a maternity cover teaching Induction English last term, will be remaining with us as an administrative assistant, working at the front desk. Arianna Suarez Lopez is no longer with us.
INTER-HOUSE PRIMARY BASKETBALL FINALS
The Primary Inter-House Basketball Third Place match and Final will take place next week on Thursday 19th January at 3pm in the Sports Hall. Parents are welcome to attend and watch our first inter-house event of the term. I am sorry I will not be there to watch, as I will be up in Madrid attending a King´s Group management meeting. However, Mr Rumistrzewicz will be presenting the trophy.
With Secondary Inter-House Chess and Scrabble (the latter played in four different languages), the beginning of Key Stage 2 and Secondary Zumba Dance, as well as a visiting theatre performance, next week will, I am sure, be another action packed week at the school.
Best wishes
Robin Silk
