In art, craft and design, pupils explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. They work with traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. They learn to appreciate and value images and artefacts across times and cultures, and to understand the contexts in which they were made. In Art and Design students explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. In Art and Design students reflect critically on their own and other people’s work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and intelligently. They develop an appreciation of art, craft and design, and its role in the creative and cultural industries that enrich their lives.
In years 7, 8 and 9 pupils are continually assessed against the U.K national curriculum levels and given targets to improve their attainment grades. Self assessment and peer assessment are also used throughout the course.
Throughout the year pupils will produce several different outcomes such as animation, photography, graphics, fine art and sculpture.
G.C.S.E
G.C.S.E students are encouraged to build on their knowledge from KS3 and develop personal and unique outcomes.
Pupils will develop their drawing and painting skills, study art history, explore different media and techniques to produce outcomes in sculpture, photography, graphics, textiles and fine art.
Pupils are also encouraged to visit exhibitions and experience art first hand. International and local visits to exhibitions and museums will be part of the course.
In year 11 pupils will sit a 10 hour exam over two days and complete six weeks of preparation work. This will form 100 % of their IGCSE grade.
