Academic Principles

Sound academic principles underpin the education of children at King’s College and form the basis of a variety of teaching and learning strategies. Approaches are adapted at each stage of a child’s education to take into account changing levels of maturity and knowledge.

Pupils are constantly challenged to strive for excellence in all they undertake, bringing out the best in each individual. While the school is academically demanding, we also place strong emphasis on providing an all-round education. We therefore endeavour to create an atmosphere where human relationships and personal development can progress in harmony.

At different stages of their schooling, pupils are involved in both individual and team work, thereby building their self-confidence and increasing tolerance towards others. They are also encouraged to undertake an active investigational approach to learning, designed to stimulate a questioning mind.

The studies offered are broad and balanced during the earlier years, becoming progressively more specialised during the later stages of Secondary education. This focus, together with the school’s specific efforts to maintain its contacts with the "world outside", means that pupils completing their schooling at King’s College are fully prepared for entry to university and for the eventual choice of a profession.

Academic Organization

The school’s educational programme is based on the English National Curriculum and offers an excellent British education to children from Pre-Nursery to University Entrance.

The curriculum leads to the Cambridge University International G.C.S.E examinations at the end of Year 11 (age 16). These studies are officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education through the process of validation.

In their final two years at King’s College, pupils study for the London University (Edexcel) GCE A Level examinations, leading to university entrance. Students wishing to attend Spanish universities may do so on the strength of their results in (I)GCSE and A Levels.

Throughout their time at the school, pupils receive advice and orientation on their academic choices and career opportunities from our very experienced Careers and University entrance Advisory Department.

Fully qualified British staff teach the English National Curriculum. Spanish language classes for Spanish nationals (including Conocimiento del Medio and Ciencias Sociales) are all given by the school’s qualified Spanish teachers.
